LORDSWILL ACADEMY, GWARINPA HOUSING ESTATE, ABUJA VISITS STANDARDS ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA (SON)
Some members of Staff and Students of Lordswill Academy, Gwarinpa Housing Estate, Abuja led by the School Principal, Mr. Agen Kenneth, were hosted on an Educational tour to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Corporate Headquarters, 52 Lome Crescent, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja on 16th March, 2017.
The Visitors were received on behalf of the Director General/Chief Executive, SON, Mr. Osita Anthony Aboloma by Mrs. Phebean O. S. Arumemi, the Head, SMEs Desk and other Members of Staff of various Departments. Master Ibeh Uchenna Harold was appointed the honorary DG (SON) during the duration of the visit, for being the only Student who readily stated the name of the DG (SON).
During the visit, the Students were briefed on SON’s role in Nigeria, the processes and benefits of Standards Development as well as the importance of imbibing Standards in the production of goods and services. The Students were encouraged to take up the responsibility of ensuring the patronage of products with SON’s Marks of Quality.
The Questions and Answers (Q & A) session was also very enlightening as the Students used the opportunity to seek answers to questions they always wanted to ask.
The Students were thereafter taken on a tour to the SON Library and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) Office where they were received and further enlightened on the roles of the two sections in ensuring the enforcement of Standards in Nigeria. They were received by Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Head, Library Services and Ms. Ose Okoduwa, Assistant Desk Officer, SONCAP respectively.
Other Members of Staff present were drawn from the following Departments: Legal Services, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS), Human Relations and Management (HRM) Standards Development, Internal Audit, Procurement, Public Relations (PR) and the SMEs Desk.
At the end of the visit, the Staff and the Students thanked the Director General/Chief Executive, Management and Staff of SON for hosting them and taking time to enlighten them. A group photograph was taken afterwards.
