SON SHUTS DOWN SAMSUNG FOR REGISTRATION INFRACTIONS

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria this morning sealed up the premises of Samsung West Africa in Victoria Island for failure to register some of the products being marketed in Nigeria.

Briefing Journalists after the closure, SON Head of Product Registration, Engr. Enebi Onucheyo stated that it was in exercise of the provisions of the SON Act 14, of 2015.

According to him, the Act provides for every product imported into Nigeria to be registered with SON for traceability and confirmation of quality status.

Engr. Onucheyo disclosed that SON records show that many Samsung products in the Nigerian Markets are not registered while those registered are not up to

On the next line of action, the SON Head of Product Registration stated that the facility will be reopened once the company takes steps to register all their products as required by law.

“We are in the era of ensuring ease of doing business in Nigeria albeit within the laws of the land” he said.

Representatives of the company claimed ignorance of the need to register the products stating that they do not import nor sell products but only market them.

The Distributors according them are the ones who should register the products.

Engr. Enebi debunked the claim, stating that the company represents Samsung in Nigeria and has responsibility to register all their products marketed in Nigeria.
