SON SHOWCASE SERVICES AT PORT HARCOURT INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR
The 13th edition of the Port Harcourt International trade fair opened on 11th December 2017 at the Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) was amongst government agencies and representatives of the organised private sector taking part to bring their services closer to the fair visitors and creating awareness on their activities.
In his opening address, the President of Port-Harcourt Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji welcomed participants, guests and partners to the 2017 international Trade Fair.
He emphasized the need for all businesses and government services to key into the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda.
This according to him informed the theme of the 2017 Fair “NIGERIA’S INDUSTRIAL SECTOR BEYOND OIL’’.
Dr. Membere-Otaji commended participants at the Fair for their patriotism and doggedness in always standing by PHCCIMA in its efforts to promote industry and trade.
He acknowledged stakeholders like Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), and Nigeria’s Shippers Council (NSC) as being key to the economic diversification agenda and commended their participation at the Fair.
The Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in his keynote address to declare the fair opened, highlighted that government cannot function effectively without the active collaboration of the organized private sector.
Represented by the Chairman, Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Commerce and Industry, Hon. Enemi Alabo George, Governor Wike stated that the State Government considers them very important partners and will continue to provide the enabling environment for their growth.
The PHCCIMA President Dr Membere-Otaji then led dignitaries round the various exhibition stands at the Fair.
Receiving the dignitaries at the SON Stand, the South-South Regional Coordinator Mr. Papaye Don-Pedro and Rivers/Bayelsa States Coordinator, Engr Ayoola Ololade explained the various standards on display.
They enumerated the role of SON as a business facilitator over and above being a regulatory agency.
Other dignitaries at the SON stand include King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, the Amayanabo of Twon Brass and First Military Governor of Old Rivers State,
Representative of the General Officer Commanding 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Gen. E. Udoh along with other Executives of the PHCCIMA.
