SON INAUGURATES TASK FORCE ON SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS
In a bid to rid the Nation of Substandard and fake products in the Nigerian Markets,the Director General and Chief Executive, Mr. Osita Aboloma has inaugurated at ask force to check the infiltration of substandard computer and allied products into Markets across the Nation.
The event which took place at the Computer village, Lagos had membership
drawn from SON Staff and members of the Computer and Allied Products
Dealers Association of Nigeria(CAPDAN). The task force was mandated to rid all Markets of substandard computer and allied products.
In his Inaugural speech, the Director General represented by the Director,DG’s Office , Lagos Mr. Kabir Mohammed charged the Committee to come up with modalities and ways of checkmating the constant infiltration of the Country with substandard computers and allied products.
He said the move was pertinent as the economic woes from the effect of
dumping of substandard products is unacceptable and therefore urged the
task force to do a self-appraisal by ensuring Marketers and importers alike
conform to set Standards.
Mr.Mohammed said the setting up of the task force was not for witch hunting but a call to service to the Nation.
In his welcome address, the President of CAPDAN, Alhaji Ahmed Ojikutu thanked the DG for heeding to the call of the Association on its desire to stop the proliferation of substandard and cloned products in Markets across the Federation through its statutory role of enforcing and regulating standards. He stated that the Task Force’s work will go along way in ensuring that sharp practices by unscrupulous importers and marketers will be check mated.
Mr. Ojikutu pledged the commitment of CAPDAN members on the task force to self regulation aimed at flushing out substandard products from the Markets with the active support of SON.
While entertaining questions from Marketers operating in the Computer village on guidelines and rules for imports and necessary requirements for certified products, the Head Customer Feedback and Collaboration Unit, Mrs. Mosulmola Samuel expressed her excitement about the complementary roles the task force will play in ridding the Markets of substandard products. She advocated the need for more sensitization on the subject for the job of the task force to have remarkable effect on Consumers.
Mrs. Samuel equally advised Consumers on their rights and where to go to seek for redress whenever they are infringed upon through exposure to or sale of substandard product.
