SON INAUGURATES STANDARDS CLUB IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE IN NIGER STATE SCHOOLS

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has inaugurated a 15-man implementation Committee on the establishment of Standards Clubs in primary and secondary schools in Niger State.

The committee membership were drawn from the Niger State ministries of education, commerce and Investment, health and the SON.

Inaugurating  the Committee in Minna, SON Director General Mr. Osita Aboloma, urged youths to identify with the noble crusade of sensitising Nigerians against the patronage of substandard products.

Represented by the Niger State Coordinator, Mr Badewole Sunday, Aboloma said that the clubs will create awareness in primary and secondary schools as well as in homes among youths that will help propagate the gospel of standardisation in the State and beyond.

“The Standards Club initiative is aimed at engaging youths at their formative stages to help propagate standards ideals and principles in schools and homes which will help to create greater awareness about zero tolerance to substandard products.

“SON has set in motion working modalities that will properly educate Nigerians on the dangers involved in patronizing sub-standard goods. By this initiative, we will expose the average Nigerian to the benefits of adopting standards in everyday life,’’ he said.

Aboloma said the programme is to attract the children and also urged the younger generation to develop the penchant for standard commodities, projects and services for industries in the country.

He called on members of the committee to draw a workable formula that will ensure the smooth takeoff of the exercise.

The coordinator also appealed to the committee to channel its abundant energies rightly and be conscious of the roles in safeguarding human lives.

“This you will do by imbibing the values of honesty, patriotism and shun greed in your day to day activities,’’ he said.

Pilot schemes of the Standards Clubs in Primary and Secondary Schools have successfully taken off in Ekiti and Osun States.

SON offices in all other States of the Federation are expected to replicate the initiative as part of standards and quality advocacy through Nigerian youths.
