EASE OF DOING BUSINESS – SON SENSITIZES NORTH EAST STAKEHOLDERS

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Tuesday in Kano,  met with stakeholders in the North West region of the country to sensitise them on the Ease of doing business in the country

The Director General of SON, Mr Osita Aboloma stated that the programme was another in the series of planned sensitization for stakeholders across the country.

Represented by Mr Bede Obayi, Director, Compliance Monitoring, the SON Chief Executive outlined the objectives as including the sensitization of business operators on government new policy on ease of doing business as relates to his organization’s mandate.

He said that it was also designed to   educate Nigerians on the need to conform to standards and international best practices in the manufacturing, importation, distribution and sales of goods and services in the country.

The DG emphasized that  necessary arrangements have been made to encourage and fast track compliant trade in the country, adding that non-complying goods would be subjected to standards enforcement procedures  for in line with the agency’s mandate as outlined in the SON Act No 14 of 2015.

Aboloma explained that the agency’s experience on non-compliance of imported products border on failure to meet labeling requirements, traceability, faking of certified made in  Nigeria products as well as outright wrong declarations and concealment among others.

He added that SON personnel have been stationed nationwide  to confront the menace in the interest of public safety and the Nation’s rapid economic development.

“Nigerians should embrace the culture of patriotism and compliance to relevant product standards as the organisation strive to improve the lives of the citizens and residents  through standards,” he said.
